Spiders
Most are harmless. The dangerous ones, we know.
Identification
Most South Texas spiders (wolf, jumping, orb weavers) are harmless. The two medically significant species are the brown recluse (small, violin-shaped marking) and black widow (shiny black with red hourglass).
Behavior & habitat
Recluses hide in undisturbed spots — closets, attics, shoes, behind furniture. Widows nest in garages, sheds, and outdoor clutter. Both bite only when pressed against skin.
Health & property risks
Recluse bites can cause necrotic tissue damage. Widow bites cause severe muscle pain, cramping, and sometimes systemic reactions.
Signs of infestation
- • Webbing in corners, garages, eaves, and outbuildings
- • Egg sacs (papery white spheres) in protected areas
- • Live spiders during inspections of closets and storage
Prevention tips
- Reduce clutter in garages, closets, and storage areas
- Shake out shoes, clothing, and bedding that have sat unused
- Seal exterior cracks and install door sweeps
- Remove webs regularly — it forces relocation
How Black Ops treats it
