Mosquito season along the I-35 corridor runs roughly March through November, with peak misery from May through October. The bugs you hate most — aggressive daytime biters in your backyard — are usually Aedes aegypti and Asian tiger mosquitoes, both container breeders that thrive in suburban yards.
Why your yard is the problem
Aedes mosquitoes don't fly far — most stay within 150 feet of where they hatched. That means almost every mosquito biting you in your own backyard hatched in your own backyard, or your immediate neighbor's. A bottle cap of standing water in a planter saucer is enough to produce dozens of biters a week.
Source reduction first, always
Before we spray anything, we walk the property and identify breeding sources: clogged gutters, kid toys, tarp folds, plant saucers, bromeliad cups, low spots that hold water for more than 5 days, and the bottoms of unused planters. Killing adults without killing the nursery is a losing battle.
Barrier treatment vs. misting systems
A monthly barrier treatment sprays a residual product on the underside of vegetation, fence lines, and shaded harborage where adult mosquitoes rest during the day. It's the right call for most San Antonio and New Braunfels homes. An installed mosquito misting system makes sense for properties with extensive outdoor living, big yards, or chronic creek/greenbelt pressure — it triggers automatically and gives consistent knockdown.
After every heavy rain
